Estate Planning
Often people believe their estate plan is complete by drafting a Will. Amazingly, there are still some of us (approximately 51% of Canadians) who do not have a Will. We highly recommend that you have a current Will prepared by your legal representative.
It is not only important to have a Will, but also to have an enduring Power of Attorney (PA). A PA is an authority given by one person to another person that allows them to conduct his or her financial affairs. This power can be granted in the event of incapacity or absence (for example while out of the country). A Power of Attorney allows you to pick a trusted relative or colleague to act on your behalf when you are not able.
A Power of Attorney can also be granted for personal care in the event of severe incapacity. This power eliminates court intervention to manage your affairs in the event that you are unable to do so yourself.
We are not lawyers and we do not prepare your Will and Power of Attorney. We do however recognize these documents as important financial planning tools. We have affiliations with legal representatives for our clients to have a Will and Power of Attorney prepared according to the laws of our land.
